01. What is the Awesome Race?
The Awesome Race is a new and unique event on Sunday, September 25th that will bring together participants to compete in challenges, decipher clues, and find their way to the next pit stop in Metro Vancouver. We expect 50 teams of two to register and have an awesome time while raising funds for our programs and services.
02. Is this similar to the TV show Amazing Race?
Yes, it is but it’s much more ‘Loving Spoonful’ style, in Metro Vancouver and over the course of one day. We aren’t sending contestants around the world, there is no passport needed, no foreign currency or language to learn, and no odd foods to eat. We have challenges, clues, detours and prizing with a healthy barbeque and official winners ceremony awaiting everybody at the finish line. It’s gonna be Awesome!
03. When is the Awesome Race?
Sunday, September 24th, 2017. Race registration/check in starts at 11:00am and officially begins at 12:00pm.
04. Who can register?
This community event will bring together teams of two to enjoy a race around the beautiful city of Metro Vancouver. Teams MUST register beforehand, no same day registrations. Ages 19+ are welcome to race, and we require that you are in good physical and mental condition.
05. How do I register?
You and your team mate can register online. Your registration includes: A commemorative t-shirt, an event day participant goodie bag, a route map, a healthy breakfast, water and refreshments along the route and a barbeque dinner and official winners ceremony upon return. Prior to event day participants much have registered ($50 each team member) and have raised at least $250 each or $500/team to qualify for entry.
06. Can I register if I don’t have a team mate?
Yes, you can register for this event if you don’t have a team mate and we’ll set up with somebody to race with. We’re not a dating service, but we’ll ‘fix you up’ for the day, although we offer no guarantee of everlasting love…
07. Do I have to be a runner or fit?
No, you do not have to be a runner or fit…although this race is going to have you travelling all over Vancouver and surrounding areas so you want to be in decent shape, physically and mentally, but we won’t have you run a marathon or test your strength or endurance at any point. You will need street smarts, patience, energy and the driving force to win.
08. Is travel required?
Travel around Vancouver and surrounding areas is required, but we’ll provide what you need. You’ll explore your city in a whole new way and you’ll get where you need to go…you just need to decipher a clue to get there.
09. Do I have to eat anything disgusting?
No. We don’t like slugs, earth worms, slimy molluscs, snakes or stinging scorpions anymore than you do, so you won’t be indulging in any of this. No gross factor and no gagging in this Awesome Race, our challenges are fun, creative and enjoyable!
10. Am I going to be embarrassed at all?
We try not to humiliate or embarrass you at all. We want you to have an awesome time, and make this an annual event on your social calendar. There will be no disrespect, nothing humiliating or embarrassing… just a whole lot of fun.
11. What do I wear?
Aside from the Awesome Race Official Shirt that must be worn on race day, dress as you like… We love a fun team costume but make sure it doesn’t limit your speed, or ability to move with ease around the city. Wear comfy shoes and leave those Prada heels at home.
12. Are there Prizes for Winners?
Oh yes! This event is a competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. There will be a 1st place GRAND PRIZE of $2400 Cash sponsored by Dignity Memorial ($1200 per team member) and awards to the 2nd and 3rd place teams. The team that raises the highest amount of pledges will get a head start in the race and ‘Rock Star Pass’ allowing the team to bypass any one challenge *restrictions may apply. Teams that raise more than $1000 may receive special prizing and acknowledgement.
13. Is there a limit to how much I can raise?
There is no limit to how much you can fundraise. In fact, the more you raise, the more you help us and the better your chances of winning a weekend trip away!
14. When does this happen and what goes on after the race?
The Awesome Race happens on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 and starts at a brand new location to be announced. After the race, all participants and supporters can enjoy a delicious dinner at the official winners ceremony.
15. Where does the money go?
All money raised goes directly to A Loving Spoonful to purchase meals for people in need. A Loving Spoonful provides free nutritious meals and nutritional counselling for men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Metro Vancouver.
16. Who is A Loving Spoonful?
A Loving Spoonful provides free nutritious meals and nutritional counselling to men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Metro Vancouver. 17. Can I participate and Not race?
If you want to participate but don’t want to compete, we welcome volunteers and know you’ll have just as much fun as the competitors. There will be volunteers at the start finish and throughout the city at the pit stops.
